Effects on health

Stomach acid
The consumption of chewing gum is discouraged by some doctors, because chewing it too frequently has been said to increase the production of stomach acid to abnormal levels over a long period of time.[

Dental health
Sugar-free gum sweetened with
xylitol has been shown to reduce cavities and plaque by starving microorganisms in the mouth. The same effect has not been shown for the sweetener sorbitol. The addition of calcium lactate has been shown to increase recalcification. Gum chewing can have a negative effect on oral health, because it can degrade the enamel on teeth. However, this is only if it is sugary gum.

Possible carcinogens
Concern has arisen about the possible
carcinogenicity of the vinyl acetate (acetic acid ethenyl ester) used by some manufacturers in their gum bases. The Canadian government has classified the ingredient as a "potentially high hazard substance."[5] Currently the ingredient can be hidden in the catch-all term "gum base".

Swallowed gum
One
old wives' tale says that swallowed gum will remain in a human's stomach for up to seven years, as it is not digestable. According to several medical opinions, there seems to be little truth behind the tale. In most cases, swallowed gum will pass through the system as fast as any other food, but can be a little slower.[6] There have been a few cases where swallowing gum has required medical attention, but these cases are more or less related to chronic gum swallowers. One young boy swallowed several pieces each day and had to be hospitalized,[7] and another little girl required medical attention when she swallowed her gum and four coins, which got stuck together in her esophagus.[6] As long as the mass of gum is small enough to pass out of the stomach, it will likely pass out of the body easily.

Bans on chewing gum
Many
schools do not allow chewing gum because students often dispose of it by sticking it to desks, chairs, floors, or similar flat surfaces. In addition, gum chewing sometimes makes an audible smacking noise, which is often quite loud in a quiet classroom.
In
Singapore, there is a country-wide ban of most types of chewing gum.

Dissolution
Gum is
fat soluble, so many fatty substances, such as chocolate or peanut butter, can cause it to dissolve or break apart.

The arts

Source:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art
The arts is a broad subdivision of culture, composed of many expressive disciplines. It is a broader term than "art", which as a description of a field usually means only the visual arts[1] (comprising fine art, decorative art, architecture, and crafts). The arts encompasses visual arts, literature, the performing arts, including music, drama, film, dance, related media, and by some definitions, other areas such as fashion.

Personal Hygiene

Personal hygiene is the first step to good grooming and good health. Elementary cleanliness is common knowledge. Neglect causes problems that you may not even be aware of. Many people with bad breath are blissfully unaware of it. Some problems may not be your fault at all, but improving standards of hygiene will control these conditions. Dandruff is a case in point. More often than you know, good looks are the result of careful and continuous grooming.

Every external part of the body demands a basic amount of attention on a regular basis. Here are some grooming routines and some complaints associated with neglect.
Teeth

Have you heard of the sixty-second battery operated wonder brush? It has been analysed that it takes only that long to give your teeth a good brush. You have to hold the brush to your teeth and say cheese (and then perhaps S-A-U-C-E for the brush to get a good scrub inside!).

Well, whether it is a neem twig or battery brush, you cannot give brushing a miss.

Brush teeth twice a day and rinse well after every meal. Brushing before going to bed is important. (Especially recommended for people with a sweet tooth). For normal teeth this is adequate.

While brushing, pay attention to the fact that you are getting rid of the food particles stuck in between the teeth and in the crevices of the flatter teeth at the back, the molars and pre molars. Brush down on the upper teeth and brush up on the lower teeth. Use a circular motion. Pay attention to the tongue and the inner surface of teeth as well.

The brush should have resilient bristles. It should be rinsed well and left to dry after use. There are no perfect toothpastes or powders. Use one without harsh abrasives or strong antiseptics.

Nails

For horny, largely vestigial growths at the tips of your fingers, they are pretty important. For reasons of hygiene and for the multi million dollar cosmetic industry.

It takes five months for nails to replace themselves. Grow nails only if you can keep them clean. (Sridhar Chillal has clawed himself into the Guinness Book of World records with nails on each finger of his left hand measuring about 3½ feet. With nails like that the hand must be pretty useless). Short nails make less trouble. Clip nails short, along their shape. Don't cut them so close that it pinches the skin.

A healthy body ensures healthy nails. Brittle or discoloured nails show up deficiencies or disease conditions.

Do not keep your nails painted continuously. It causes the keratin, of which nails are made, to split. Pamper your hands and nails once every three weeks with a manicure. This requires soaking your hands in warm water for ten minutes, massaging of hands, thorough cleaning and shaping of nails. Choose your manicure kit with care. In some kits, the instruments are crudely made and they will do more harm than good.
